Most of the popular tourist destinations in New Orleans are located within a comfortable walking distance of one another, making touring the city on foot a popular option for many visitors. The city's famed streetcars, as well as the local buses, also greatly expedite transportation in the city and taxis are readily available.

Numerous roads provide access to New Orleans including I-10, which comes from Jacksonville and goes on to Los Angeles, and I-55, which continues on to Chicago.

Greyhound runs regular buses from major US destinations to New Orleans and Amtrak offers trains to and from Union Passenger Terminal. The city is served by Louis Armstrong International Airport, some 10 miles from the Central Business District, with mainly domestic flights offered here.
